Spertiniite on Malachite
$275.00
Specimen # 922128
Specimen Locality: LEtoile du Congo Mine, Lubumbashi, Katanga, Dem. Republic of Congo
Mineral Description: At first glance, this could be mistaken for chrysocolla on malachite. I purchased a small lot of these from Don Olson Minerals in Denver this year. He had the blue mineral analyzed and it came back as spertiniite, not Chrysocolla. Spertiniite is a rare copper hydroxide mineral named after Francesco Spertini. The contrast between the baby blue spertiniite and dark green malachite is striking. Height: 12.5 Width: 8 Depth: 3 cm
