Specimen # RCL00660
Specimen Locality: Rosiclare Level, Minerva Mine #1, Ozark-Mahoning Company, Cave-in-Rock District, Southern Illinois (Ex. Ross C. Lillie)
Mineral Description: From the collection of Ross Cl. Lillie, this was one of the later specimens to come out of the mine as it was being shut down. The specimen was mined in mid-April of 1994 during pillar robbing for the cross-cut orebody. (Once the mine was being shut down, the process of “robbing” or mining of the pillars (which were left to hold up the cavern roof) began. This is a FANTASTIC specimen of translucent to glassy light purple over yelllow zoned fluorite cubes to 8 mm. The specimen is translucent overall and backlights nicely. There is a superb 3 cm calcite cluster perched in the center of the specimen (There is a crossed-out note on the back of the label indicating that the “calcite needs to be checked, may be a different carbonate”, followed by the word No. This is a top-notch specimen! Height: 8.8 Width: 6.8 Depth: 3 cm
